City of Dreams Event
Fri 24 May 2019Four of our KS2 school council members had an exciting opportunity to attend the City of Dreams consultation. The children visited Knoplaw Primary and discussed what barriers there were for children getting involved in cultural activities in our area. The children suggested ideas about how to overcome these barriers and pitched their own Million Pound Idea to help change the face of arts and culture in our area. -
School Games Mini Tennis Competition
Fri 24 May 2019On Wednesday afternoon, some year 4 pupils had a fantastic first taste of competitive mini tennis. The children all showed great resilience and determination throughout. Ancient Greek Topic in Y5
Fri 24 May 2019The Year 5 classes have had visitors from Durham University showing items them their Ancient Greek handling collection. They were able to look at and touch a combination of real and replica objects. They became archaeologists and recorded their findings, whilst trying to work out what the objects were and what they were used for. At the end of the session, all was revealed and they learned some amazing facts about the Ancient Greeks! They then created their own votive offerings from clay and produced their own campaign as it would have been used in a Greek democracy. They had to use the Greek alphabet to write their campaigns. The final task was to perform a Greek play using costumes and masks. The children had a fantastic day and learned so much about their topic. -

Walk to School Poster Competition
We had some fantastic poster designs submitted for our walk to school poster competition and we had such a difficult time choosing a winner. Congratulations to Sophia D in Y5 and to our runners-up: Toby in Reception, Lindsey in Y4, Sofia R in Y5, Lucy in Y6 and Olivia in Y6.
Thank you to all of the children who submitted a design. Miss Dockey and Miss Williamson will be creating a display with all of the posters so that everyone in school can see them.
WOW Badges
To celebrate the first month of the WOW programme, all children in Reception to Year 6 have received a WOW badge today. Please read the letter in your child’s book bag for updates on how this programme will work when we return to school after half term.

Allotment Club
Fri 17 May 2019Following on from the work that was done in November by the School Council and the Newcastle University Eco Society, Mr Elliott’s Allotment Club has now started to prepare the beds for planting. They have been busy clearing all of the weeds and they have some lovely plants and packets of seeds ready to go into the ground. We can’t wait to eat some of the delicious produce that they will be growing! -
Y6 - We are so proud of you!
Fri 17 May 2019What a week it has been for Year 6! The photos above show them enjoying the post-SATs tradition of playing with the toys on the KS1 yard. All of their hard work over the year (and since nursery!) has led to this week when they get to show how much progress they have made by completing their SATs in reading, grammar, spelling and maths (arithmetic & reasoning). Mrs Stuart, Mr Kidger, Mr Brown, Miss Dockey and the whole staff team are so proud of their hard work and commitment throughout this school year. They are a credit to our school and deserve every success in the future. SATs are a small part of their life here at Throckley and only show their abilities in two core subjects. We continue to be proud of what they demonstrate every day across the curriculum, and of the way they support and care for their peers and friends. Thank you to Y6 parents for all of your support! -
Picnic!
Fri 17 May 2019We had a glorious day for our picnic! The children and staff ate their lunches in the sunshine and then spent the rest of the lunch break running, playing, laughing and relaxing on the grass in our beautiful field. Thank you to Chartwells for providing the delicious packed lunches. -
Girls' Football Tournament at Walbottle Campus

Year 5 Bikeability Level 2
Fri 10 May 2019This week our Year 5 classes have had the opportunity to learn to cycle safely out in the community. Level 2 Bikeability builds on their learning from Level 1 and gives them the skills and confidence to do the following: prepare for on-road cycling, start and finish an on-road journey, recognise typical hazards, let others know what they are about to do, know where to ride on the road and pass parked vehicles on side roads. These children now know how to ride their bikes safely in their own neighbourhood. -
Y4 at the European Rugby Champions Cup & Challenge Cup Fan Village
Fri 10 May 2019Newcastle is hosting two huge rugby matches at St James Park this weekend and our Year 4 classes had the opportunity to visit the fan village today and participate in some fun activities which were led by the Newcastle Falcon’s Community Foundation. The children tried their skills with the tackle bag, tag rugby, speed throwing and target throwing. The eyes of the world will be on Newcastle this weekend as the match will be televised in over 100 countries! Thank you to the Falcons for giving our children the chance to participate in this incredible event which is taking place in our very own city!
