Whole School Christmas Book Focus
Fri 29 Nov 2019As a special treat in the run up to Christmas, we are going to have a whole school focus on this lovely picture bookabout a girl called Mia and her family. Every Christmas, they read a letter from her Grandpa that fondly recalls his favourite memories and asks her (and everyone else!) to continue to care for and protect our precious world. It is a short text and has lovely cross-curricular links to the environment, our planet and sustainability. We think that the children will love this book and it will add some Christmas magic to our English lessons in December! -
Science Challenge Homework
Fri 29 Nov 2019Before half term, the pupils at Throckley were challenged to explore the impact of air pressure on the world around us with only a few straws and a glass of water. The response was tremendous! Children used multiple straws in and out of the water, while others put holes in straws; some even held glasses of water upside down with only a paper base, discovering that we have atmospheric pressure to thank for a drink of water! -
Consultation for Parents/Carers about new Sex & Relationships (SRE) Curriculum
Fri 29 Nov 2019Mrs Brown and Miss Liddle enjoyed having the opportunity to share the building blocks of our new Relationships Curriculum with our parents/carers and to discuss how the primary curriculum will lead into the future learning of the children when they reach secondary school. Parents at the meeting were able to see the age appropriate topics of our curriculum and ask questions about the learning that will be taking place in PSHE lessons. The input from our parents and carers was extremely valuable and we will be using it to tailor the curriculum to suit the needs of our children and families. -

Autumn Term Coffee Morning
Fri 22 Nov 2019Miss Sewell, Mrs Brown and Lynne Cunningham were pleased to welcome so many of our parents/carers to their first coffee morning. It was so nice to have time for a relaxed chat away from the busy start and end to the day. A special thank you to our school chef, June, who baked some amazing treats and to Chartwells who provided all of those treats for free. We hope that you enjoyed trying some of the puddings that your children eat with their school dinners. We will hold a coffee morning each term, so please look out for the next invitation. We look forward to seeing you there! -
OWL Trust Dodgeball Champions - Again!
Fri 22 Nov 2019Our Years 5 & 6 Dodgeball won the annual OWL dodgeball tournament for the third year running. Children in our school love to play dodgeball, and all of their practice in lessons and clubs really shows when they play. Miss Thorpe and Miss Williamson were very proud of their performance, behaviour and sportsmanship. -
Anti-cyberbullying workshops with GEM Education
Fri 15 Nov 2019s part of Anti-bullying/E-safety Day, Years 2 & 5 have worked with a specialist IT teacher from GEM Education to create anti-cyberbullying posters using augmented reality. After watching an age-appropriate video about cyberbullying, the children discussed their top tips for staying safe online. They then used the Clips app to design a video using text, images and voice tools to share those top tips with everyone at school. They created a poster in pairs on paper, which comes to life through an HP reveal app, and plays their e-safety video. Now, when you scan the posters with an iPad, the videos will automatically play and help us all to remember what we can do to prevent cyberbullying. GEM Education will be delivering workshops in other year groups in the near future. -
History assembly and activities on Remembrance Day
Fri 15 Nov 2019In a special history assembly to commemorate Remembrance Day, we discussed the significance of this day to our school, our community and our country. In the assembly, the children shared: some impressive facts about the World Wars, the special ways we can pay our respects to the military and they participated in a moment of silence so that they could reflect and give thanks. The children also enjoyed a moving recital of the poem, Flander's Fields which was delivered by some Year 6 children.
