LORIC - Laura Leadership
Fri 26 Apr 2019Over the course of this year, we have had a huge focus on LORIC in school. This programme helps us to support children in developing essential life skills that will help them both in and out of school for many years to come. Through LORIC, we have focused on the key skills of organisation; resilience; communication; and initiative. The final piece of our LORIC jigsaw is to focus on leadership skills, so we would like to introduce Laura Leadership! We have purposefully left Laura until last and this is because all of the other skills we've learned about are essential to being a good leader! This half term, children across school will be exploring what it means to be an effective leader and will be given opportunities to develop this skill across the curriculum. Watch out for stickers and achievement points celebrating leadership and don't forget to ask your child about what it means to be a good leader and how we can all take on different types of leadership roles effectively! -
WOW - Walk to School Challenge
Fri 26 Apr 2019Throckley Primary has been chosen to be part of an exciting national challenge to encourage more children and their families to walk to school. WOW is delivered by Living Streets, a UK charity which wants to get as many children as possible experiencing the benefits of walking to school. WOW rewards children who walk to school at least once a week with a special monthly badge. The school will also be providing fun incentives and prizes to help make the challenge of walking to school more exciting! If you live too far to walk the entire way to school, your child can still participate by using the Park & Stride service at Sainsburys. Riding your bike or scooter also counts as walking to school.
We will be sending home more information about this new programme in the near future and we hope that many of our families will discover the following benefits when they walk to school:
- Arrive at school refreshed and ready to learn
- Improve the fitness of the whole family
- Reduce congestion and improve air quality in Throckley

Dance Festival at City Hall
Fri 05 Apr 2019On Wednesday afternoon the Throckley Movers (our dance club) travelled to the Newcastle City Hall for their annual Dance Festival. Miss Thorpe and Miss Williamson took 27 children from Years 3 to 6 to perform their ‘Dancing through the Movies’ routine on the prestigious stage. The children have been working on this dance for several weeks and they danced beautifully with great big smiley faces for their parents and the audience. Our dancers were an absolute asset to our school and they all made Miss Thorpe and Miss Williamson very proud. Thank you to all of the parents/carers who came to watch the dance and support our Throckley Movers! -
