Sport Premium

“We believe that physical education, experienced in a safe and supportive environment, is a unique and vital contributor to a pupil's physical development, personal development and well-being. Through an ambitious and well sequenced curriculum supported by carefully chosen and scaffolded tasks, all pupils, irrespective of their starting ability, will enjoy success, be suitably challenged, and be motivated to further develop their individual potential.” 

At Throckley Primary School we believe PE & Sport play an important role in making our vision statement a reality for every pupil, with the potential to change young people’s lives for the better.  We have welcomed the Government’s announcement to extend the Sport Premium to help primary schools improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils and we are committed to using this resource for developing high-quality PE lessons, alongside greater opportunities for sporting competitions and clubs for all of our young people.  

Sustainability

We are using the Sport Premium to provide CPD for our PE Co-ordinators, teaching and support staff so that we have the expertise within school to deliver outstanding PE lessons in all phases of the school.  Through the ONE (OWL North East) Trust, we are sharing practice and providing competitions for our pupils.    

What does the Sport Premium mean for Throckley Primary School?

'Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this’ (DfE June 2013).

At Throckley Primary School we are using the following key indicators:

1. Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.
2. Engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity.
3. The profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement.
4. Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils.

5. Increased participation in competitive sport.
