Our Wellbeing
We look for ways to together develop strategies to support our mental health and wellbeing. We discuss what we can do to help us to feel good so that we are ready to learn and participate fully.
Reception
Reception children explored yoga as part of ‘Our Wellbeing’ and thought about how breathing slowly and listening to music can help them feel happy and calm. The children loved using their mediation poses as they crossed their legs and developed their breathing techniques. Well done, Reception!
Year 1
Year 1 enjoyed their Thrive afternoon which was linked to the ‘Our Wellbeing’ focus. They thought about their own well-being in a PSHE lesson and discovered they could support this by developing strategies for self-care such as rainbow breathing, shake breaks and talking to a friend. They learned the importance of maintaining their physical well-being and took part in a yoga session with their friends. They had a wonderful afternoon.
Year 2
Year 2 enjoyed their Wellbeing Wednesdays, which linked to the focus on supporting ‘Our Wellbeing’. The children took part in yoga, and discussed how physical activity can support positive mental health. The children took time to practice their belly and rainbow breathing, and reflected upon how these techniques can calm their minds. They shared a story with their friends and talked about how community can support their lifestyle and how they feel. Year 2 also calmed their minds by listening to relaxing music and colouring in Autumn themed images.
Year 3
Year 3 thrived in their forest school as part of their Thrive at Throckley morning and to celebrate Autumn Equinox. With 'Our Wellbeing' as the focus, the children explored how nature can help relax the mind. Children also designed some creative insects using leaves and sticks to form the bodies of the artwork. Along with this, children participated in a nature quest that was set up by the National Education Nature Park. Impressive work, Year 3 … BeLEAF me!
Year 4
Year 4 children loved their Thrive morning, which was linked to the focus of ‘Our Wellbeing’. In their PSHE lessons this half term, children have discussed ways to improve their mental health and wellbeing. Their Thrive morning consisted of three of these ideas. Year 4 took part in outdoor yoga, breathing methods and sun salutations. They then completed some mindful colouring outside.
Year 5
Year 5 have been investigating their financial wellbeing as part of 'Our Wellbeing' by looking at packed lunch food items. The children visited Sainsbury's to look at food labels and find the nutritional information as well as the cost of different foods. Did you know that a ham and cheese sandwich costs £2.85 if you buy it ready made? However, if you buy the bread, butter, ham and cheese separately and make your sandwich yourself, it will only cost you 97p!
Year 6
Year 6 children enjoyed their Thrive morning this half term, which was linked to the focus of ‘Our Wellbeing’. The children engaged with three different activities – one which linked to their physical wellbeing, one which linked to their emotional wellbeing and one which linked to their social wellbeing. They understood the importance of physical activity when taking part in running and yoga, they spent some time reflecting on their own emotions, before finishing the morning playing a range of games and activities with their peers. Well done, Year 6!
