Extracurricular Clubs
We run a variety of extra-curricular clubs for children in Years 1 - 6 before school and during lunchtime. The choice of clubs changes termly and we aim to provide a range of clubs that will appeal to different children so that every child can find a club that interests them. Examples of clubs include: Art, Cross Stitch, Football, Choir, Drumming, Library, Allotment, Dance, Digital Leaders, Drama, Keyboards, Netball, Magic Maths, Science Ambassadors, Bowling, Fitness. We also run Bright Starts and Wellbeing morning clubs to provide children with a great start to the day.
In order to provide the children with opportunities to attend inter-school competitions, we run clubs in co-operation with our partner schools within the Outer West Learning Trust. We also work with external organisations such as Newcastle United Foundation, Newcastle Falcons Rugby, Newcastle Thunder Rugby League, Newburn Leisure, Newcastle Music Service and Tardis Education in order to provide a wider variety of extra-curricular activities.

Take a look at some of the exciting experiences and wonderful activities our Autumn Term clubs had to offer the children in our school.
Forest School
A small group of children across Key Stage 1 and 2 took part in a lunch time Forest School Club.
They learned the core principles of Forest School and how to play in our woodlands safely while respecting nature. They explored the wildlife and habitats that can be found on the school site, measured rainfall and created art using natural materials. They also learned how to tie a selection of knots needed to support their den building. The children thoroughly enjoyed leading their own learning and showed resilience, teambuilding and problem-solving skills.
Yoga
Children have learned a variety of poses, meditation and breathing techniques. They have focused on developing a toolkit to support their mental wellbeing and build upon their fundamental skills in P.E to support with movement, strength and flexibility. By the end of the term, the children have become physically stronger and strengthened their core to support with everyday movements such as sitting on a chair, standing from a seated position and bending down to reach the floor. The children have an understanding of how breath work can support regulating their emotions and make them feel calmer throughout the school day.
Sports Clubs
Year 3 and Year 4 participated in a striking and fielding club in which they played a range of games to improve their teamwork, throwing, catching and striking skills.
Year 5 and Year 6 have participated in a Boccia club and a Dodgeball club. The children thoroughly enjoyed competing against each other and learning the rules of a new game. They also practised their sportsmanship skills.
Science Club
Science Club runs throughout the year with the intention of raising the profile of science investigations across school. Science ambassadors from every year group in KS1 and KS2 are invited to rehearse practical tests of the forces in the natural world, in order to provide examples to the wider school of challenges that all children can complete at home using everyday resources. To date, they have constructed paper helicopters to explore the interaction of air resistance and gravity, followed by investigating the effect of convection and air currents with homemade Christmas decorations. All challenges will be shared with the wider school community as part of the STEAM week showcase, to further cement the role science has for all of us in understanding the world around us.
Wellbeing Club
During wellbeing club, we discussed a range of emotions and how we can use the Zones of Regulation to support us in managing our emotions. We thought about tasks or activities that would support good mental health and wellbeing. They included painting, mindful colouring, spending time in the woodland area and working as a team to play parachute games in the outdoors. We really enjoyed spending time participating in the different activities in wellbeing club.
Girls Football
Year 3 and Year 4 girls have been participating in a football club. They have been learning the fundamentals of football, including passing, dribbling and shooting. The girls have superbly transferred these skills across to invasion-style activities which have explored and enhanced their knowledge around attack v defence. It has been amazing to see the amount of girls participating and enjoying their football, with a hope for there to be a Throckley girls' football team in the future.
