Extracurricular Clubs
We run a variety of extra-curricular clubs for children in Years 1 - 6 before and after school and during lunchtime. Examples of clubs include: Art, Cross Stitch, Football, Choir, Drumming, Library, Allotment, Dance, Digital Leaders, Drama, Eco-warriors, Keyboards, Netball, Magic Maths, Science Ambassadors, Bowling, Fitness. We also run Bright Starts and Wellbeing morning clubs to provide children with a great start to the day.
In order to provide the children with opportunities to attend inter-school competitions, we run clubs in co-operation with other schools in the ONE (OWL North East) Trust. We also work with external organisations such as Newcastle United Foundation, Newcastle Falcons Rugby, Newcastle Thunder Rugby League, Newburn Leisure, Newcastle Music Service and Tardis Education in order to provide a wider variety of extra-curricular activities.

Fashion and Design
Our Fashion and Design club launched during spring term, and it has been enjoyed by children across Key Stage 2. Year 5 and 6 children were thrilled to create their own tote bag designs, as well as vision boards using current fashion magazines and articles. Year 3 and 4 children have developed a range of their own clothing designs, looking at different styles throughout the years and choosing a name for their own fashion collection. It has been fantastic to see children express their own individuality and ideas through their amazing designs!
Cookery
The children made a snack, savoury recipe, a sweet recipe and a drink within their cookery sessions. They made ham and tomato/tomato savoury muffins, pizza English muffins, fruit and yoghurt frozen bites and a strawberry milkshake.
The children learned how important it is to clean your area before starting to cook and about health and safety factors such as protecting their clothing with an apron and to tie hair back. The children learned skills such as chopping safely, peeling, whisking, mixing, blending and the importance of measuring accurately.
Board Games
We focused on building resilience, teamwork and listening skills. We also discussed the importance of using good oracy skills when playing games together. The children enjoyed supporting others to learn familiar games, they used their oracy skills to explain rules. They encouraged each other even when they found a game challenging. The children have really developed their resilience. To begin with, some children found losing tricky, however by the end of the term they we more comfortable with losing and understood that failure was ok and a necessity to learning new things. By the end of the term all the children were confident in playing with each other and chose to play with those they wouldn’t normally interact with. It has been lovely to see new friendship form in board game club.
TTRS
In Times Tables Rock Stars club, Year 4 children have been practising their times tables ahead of the Multiplication Tables Check at the end of the year. They are making amazing progress and some children have now reached ‘gone green’ status on their heat maps showing they know all their facts up to 12 x 12.
Art Club
We looked at the work of a local artist, Julia Roxburgh and we took inspiration from her amazing ceramic vase designs! The children initially had to plan their own vase design, thinking carefully about shapes and colours they would like to use. They then practised moulding techniques using plastercine before we made our final product using clay! Once they were dry, we had to paint them to match our designs.
Reading Rocks
In reading club, we have been exploring the book ‘The Bad Guys’ by Aaron Blabely. As part of this, we have used drama and performances to bring to life the characters and their personas. Using expression, we have read aloud many chapters from the book to perfectly convey how the characters are feeling. Feeling inspired by the book, the children designed their own bad guy for the story.

It has been amazing to see the amount of girls participating and enjoying their football, with a hope for there to be a Throckley girls' football team in the future.

To date, they have constructed paper helicopters to explore the interaction of air resistance and gravity, followed by investigating the effect of convection and air currents with homemade Christmas decorations. All challenges will be shared with the wider school community as part of the STEAM week showcase, to further cement the role science has for all of us in understanding the world around us.
