National Support School
Throckley Primary as a National Support School
National Leaders of Education
In December 2016, the National College designated Julie Stuart a National Leader of Education (NLE) and Throckley Primary a National Support School (NSS).
National Leaders of Education are strong school leaders, who have experience of effectively supporting schools in challenging circumstances. NLEs may work alongside other system leaders to provide high-quality support to those who need it most. This approach will help to ensure that more effective school leaders and schools are able to provide high-quality support, in areas of the country where it is needed most.
National Support Schools
When Julie Stuart was selected as an NLE, the school became a National Support School. This designation recognises that staff in the school are likely to work alongside the NLE in any support they may provide.
Specialist Leaders of Education System Leadership, which includes Specialist Leaders of Education (SLEs), support the Department for Education’s goal to provide every child and young person with access to high-quality provision, achieving to the best of their ability regardless of location, prior attainment and background.
SLEs focus on developing leadership capacity. While other roles focus specifically on developing classroom expertise, this role is about developing the capacity and capability of other leaders so that they have the skills to lead their own teams and improve practice in their own schools.
Throckley Primary has three designated Specialist Leaders of Education:
- Mrs Lynsey Giblin- English and Curriculum
- Mrs Julia Brown – Early Years Foundation Stage and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
- Mrs Ellie Sample- Early Years Foundation Stage and Phonics
