Our Community
We are proud of our increasingly diverse local community. We are proud of our heritage. We are proud of our school and the contribution it makes to the area in which we live.
Encouraging Collaboration and Teamwork
Year 6 completed some teamwork activities before creating kindness posters in order to boost our class and school community spirit.
Caring for Others in our Community
Year 5 spent time considering older members of their community. They spent time designing a range of handmade Christmas cards and wrote lovely messages inside of these. The children were so excited to visit the local care homes in our community to deliver these Christmas cards to the residents. Whilst visiting the care homes, the children were very friendly and spent time chatting to the residents and asking them lots of questions about their lives. It was lovely to see lots of smiles as the children performed some of their Christmas carols and songs for the residents - it was a great way of spreading festive cheer!
Supporting Others to make Positive Choices
Year 4 wanted to make a difference to Throckley so they thought about things that could improve where they live - the two most pertinent being road safety and the local environment. They then chose to create positive messages of support and encouragement. The children designed their own posters focusing on road safety and sustainability before distributing them around Throckley.
Staying Safe
Safety Seymour visited Year 3 to deliver a very engaging and informative workshop on the dangers of carbon monoxide around the home, school and local area. The children later also had a visit from a local community police officer who talked about the value of keeping the streets safe and contributing to the community positively.
Reducing Traffic and Getting Outdoors
Year 2 explored the benefits of walking to school. They discussed how walking is beneficial to our mental health as well as our physical health, and took a lovely, relaxing stroll around the school grounds. Then, they talked about how they could persuade others to reduce traffic on our local roads by choosing to walk to school - they worked as authors to write acrostic poems all about walking.
