Year 1 Unicef Christmas Project
Fri 21 Dec 2018Year 1 is participating in a Unicef project which enables schools to send Christmas presents to vulnerable children around the world. As part of their learning in PSHE, the classes visited a virtual shop on the Unicef website to learn about the presents that are available to send and why the children might want those presents. They then voted for their favourite present and used their maths skills to create a bar chart which showed the results of the vote. The children decided to send 400 pencils and several boxes of high energy biscuits to a school. If you have a child in Year 1, be sure to ask them to tell you why they made these choices. Mrs Wright and Mr Metcalf will purchase the gifts through the website and Paddington Bear will be sending each class a lovely thank you letter. -
Christingle Services
Fri 21 Dec 2018We were amazed by the response to our Christingle collection. Donations poured into school all throughout December and the total so far is over £783. The children in Years 1-6 attended a special Christingle service at St Mary’s Church and the children in Early Years have had a service in front of the Christmas tree here in school. Thank you for supporting this project. All proceeds will be going to The Children’s Society and will be used to help vulnerable young people. -
Christmas Parties!
Fri 21 Dec 2018At Throckley Primary we know how to have fun when all of the hard work is done! All of the classes in school celebrated the end of the Autumn Term with big Christmas Parties! Everyone enjoyed dancing and playing games with their friends and teachers. We wish all of our families a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and we look forward to seeing all of the children (except Rising 3s) back in school on Monday 7th Jan 2019 - we do not have a training day at the start of the new term.

School Choir at Costa Coffee, Grainger Market, Sainsburys and Rosewood Villa
Fri 14 Dec 2018On Thursday 13th December, the Throckley Primary School choir performed in the Grainger Market and Costa Coffee, Market Street, singing Christmas carols and spreading Christmas cheer around Newcastle. The ten girls from years 4-6 were happy to be performing in front of an audience for the first time since joining choir club in September. They even sang outside Costa, right across from the Theatre Royal! Costa were very kind and provided all the girls with hot chocolate and flakes to warm back up after a day of Christmas caroling.
On Monday 17th December, the full choir of children from years 1 - 6 brought Christmas cheer to the Throckley community with performances at our local Sainsbury’s and for the residents at Rosewood Villa.

Year 6 Enterprise Project
Fri 14 Dec 2018As part of their DT and Geography curriculum, Year 6 have taken part in an exciting Christmas Card Enterprise Project! Over the course of this half term, we have looked carefully at our target audience, and evaluated market research using cross-curricular maths skills to design a fit-for-user Christmas Card. After this, we sent our edited and improved designs away to Rudolph who printed them professionally! We still have some cards for sale: join us on the KS2 yard after school next week to avoid missing out! 50p for 1 card or £1.50 for 4. All profits will be donated to a conservation charity decided upon by the children as part of our "Are we destroying our world?" Geography unit. -
