Reading Raffle at Achievement Assembly
Fri 25 Oct 2019Reading is so important to us at Throckley Primary School; it is the key to success both in school and beyond! Children collect raffle tickets each time they read at home. Class raffle boxes are taken to the achievement assembly where one ticket is picked at random from each class. The half term's reading raffle was extra special! Winners picked a token from the special Reading Treasure Chest. Prizes included storybooks; non-fiction books; and Smiggle stationary. And there's more! One special Golden Ticket winner won the amazing prize of a Bedtime Story Box which had a snuggly blanket, hot chocolate, cookies and a book inside! What a treat! Don't forget - you've got to be in it to win it! Please read with your child at home as much as possible; who knows, they could be the next Bedtime Stories winner! -

Nursery Enquiry Question - What Makes Us Special?
Fri 18 Oct 2019Nursery have been hosting special visitors this term in order to help them to answer their enquiry question - ‘What makes us special?’. The children have been learning about where they live and their community and they have been finding out about different ways of life and the festivals that are celebrated by people across the world. They have also been exploring their own likes and imagining what they might want to do when they grow up. Special visitors have been coming into school to give the children Wow learning experiences. Thank you to the Tyne & Wear Fire Service and to the NHS for spending time with our children and showing them what they do in their careers. More visitors will be in Nursery after half term.

Year 3 Smart Scoot
Fri 11 Oct 2019Our Year 3 classes have participated in the Smart Scoot programme today. The Newcastle City Council Road Safety Team has delivered sessions which teach the children how to check that their scooters are safe and how to ride their scooters safely in the community. The children also learned about the importance of good manners while riding a scooter and how to keep other people safe when sharing footpaths. Finally, the children have learned how important it is to wear a safety helmet at all times. Accidents can happen very quickly, and helmets protect the children from head injuries.
