Walk to School Poster & Pledge
Fri 10 May 2019All children from Reception to Year 6 have attended an assembly about the WOW Program this week and they have all started to record their method of travelling to school when completing the register each morning. The online recording system is very easy to use and each child has been given a cute icon to represent them in the system - the children are very excited about the icons, so be sure to ask your child which one they are using!
To kick off the WOW Program, we are sending home two letters today:
Walk to School Pledge - we are asking all of our families to sign a pledge to try to walk to school at least one per week (this includes scootering, cycling, using a Park & Stride or getting off of the bus one stop earlier).
Poster Competition - we are asking children to design a poster to spread the important health, well-being and air quality messages about the benefits of walking to school. The best posters will be displayed around the school site for all to see and the winner of the competition will receive a gift voucher.
In addition to the posters and the pledge, the children who walk to school most often throughout the summer term will be entered in our WOW Raffle. The prizes include scooters and outdoor games which encourage active play. There are even some travel mugs for the grown-ups so that they can enjoy their coffee while walking to school!
The weather next week looks lovely, so let’s all try walking to school!

Y4 Litter Litter Poster Project with Throckley Village Group
Fri 03 May 2019As part of their environmental project with the Throckley Village Group, Year 4 has designed some posters to encourage everyone to put their litter in the bin. The Throckley Community Group has chosen three posters which will be printed and put on to the litter bins around the local community. The children who created the winning designs were each presented with an Eldon Square voucher in assembly. Thank you to Anne Whittaker, Caroline Collinson and Lilian Reed for presenting the awards and to the Throckley Community Group for organising this fantastic project.
