Y6 - We are so proud of you!
Fri 17 May 2019What a week it has been for Year 6! The photos above show them enjoying the post-SATs tradition of playing with the toys on the KS1 yard. All of their hard work over the year (and since nursery!) has led to this week when they get to show how much progress they have made by completing their SATs in reading, grammar, spelling and maths (arithmetic & reasoning). Mrs Stuart, Mr Kidger, Mr Brown, Miss Dockey and the whole staff team are so proud of their hard work and commitment throughout this school year. They are a credit to our school and deserve every success in the future. SATs are a small part of their life here at Throckley and only show their abilities in two core subjects. We continue to be proud of what they demonstrate every day across the curriculum, and of the way they support and care for their peers and friends. Thank you to Y6 parents for all of your support! -

Year 5 Bikeability Level 2
Fri 10 May 2019This week our Year 5 classes have had the opportunity to learn to cycle safely out in the community. Level 2 Bikeability builds on their learning from Level 1 and gives them the skills and confidence to do the following: prepare for on-road cycling, start and finish an on-road journey, recognise typical hazards, let others know what they are about to do, know where to ride on the road and pass parked vehicles on side roads. These children now know how to ride their bikes safely in their own neighbourhood. -
Y4 at the European Rugby Champions Cup & Challenge Cup Fan Village
Fri 10 May 2019Newcastle is hosting two huge rugby matches at St James Park this weekend and our Year 4 classes had the opportunity to visit the fan village today and participate in some fun activities which were led by the Newcastle Falcon’s Community Foundation. The children tried their skills with the tackle bag, tag rugby, speed throwing and target throwing. The eyes of the world will be on Newcastle this weekend as the match will be televised in over 100 countries! Thank you to the Falcons for giving our children the chance to participate in this incredible event which is taking place in our very own city! -
Walk to School Poster & Pledge
Fri 10 May 2019All children from Reception to Year 6 have attended an assembly about the WOW Program this week and they have all started to record their method of travelling to school when completing the register each morning. The online recording system is very easy to use and each child has been given a cute icon to represent them in the system - the children are very excited about the icons, so be sure to ask your child which one they are using!
To kick off the WOW Program, we are sending home two letters today:
Walk to School Pledge - we are asking all of our families to sign a pledge to try to walk to school at least one per week (this includes scootering, cycling, using a Park & Stride or getting off of the bus one stop earlier).
Poster Competition - we are asking children to design a poster to spread the important health, well-being and air quality messages about the benefits of walking to school. The best posters will be displayed around the school site for all to see and the winner of the competition will receive a gift voucher.
In addition to the posters and the pledge, the children who walk to school most often throughout the summer term will be entered in our WOW Raffle. The prizes include scooters and outdoor games which encourage active play. There are even some travel mugs for the grown-ups so that they can enjoy their coffee while walking to school!
The weather next week looks lovely, so let’s all try walking to school!

Fri 03 May 2019As part of their environmental project with the Throckley Village Group, Year 4 has designed some posters to encourage everyone to put their litter in the bin. The Throckley Community Group has chosen three posters which will be printed and put on to the litter bins around the local community. The children who created the winning designs were each presented with an Eldon Square voucher in assembly. Thank you to Anne Whittaker, Caroline Collinson and Lilian Reed for presenting the awards and to the Throckley Community Group for organising this fantastic project. -

LORIC - Laura Leadership
Fri 26 Apr 2019Over the course of this year, we have had a huge focus on LORIC in school. This programme helps us to support children in developing essential life skills that will help them both in and out of school for many years to come. Through LORIC, we have focused on the key skills of organisation; resilience; communication; and initiative. The final piece of our LORIC jigsaw is to focus on leadership skills, so we would like to introduce Laura Leadership! We have purposefully left Laura until last and this is because all of the other skills we've learned about are essential to being a good leader! This half term, children across school will be exploring what it means to be an effective leader and will be given opportunities to develop this skill across the curriculum. Watch out for stickers and achievement points celebrating leadership and don't forget to ask your child about what it means to be a good leader and how we can all take on different types of leadership roles effectively!
