Fri 02 Oct 2020Year 3 have been investigating shadows as part of their topic on light. Using their class text, 'The Explorer', the children made shadow puppets of the main characters and retold the beginning of the story whilst investigating how shadows are formed and how they change when they are moved closer to a light source. The children also went out onto the yard on a sunny day and used chalk drawings to explore their own shadows.

National Poetry Day 2020
Fri 02 Oct 2020On Thursday we all celebrated National Poetry Day. The photos above show just some of the poetry activities which were taking place in classrooms throughout the school.
- Year 4 explored their five favourite types of poems and then sorted Stone Age poems into whether they were cinquain, tanka or haiku. The children know the difference between these types of poems by how many lines and syllables they have. They then used their knowledge of Stone Age cave people to create their own kenning riddle poem about them. To finish off their favourite five poems, they worked as a class to create an acrostic poem about the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages.
- Year 2 read and recited a poem about superheroes to link in with their class book, ‘Traction Man’ by Mini Grey.

The Big Anti-Bullying Assembly 2020
Fri 02 Oct 2020Our school took part in a virtual assembly this week which was sponsored by Nationwide Building Society. The event brought together hundreds of thousands of children empowering them to tackle bullying with a host of celebrities including; children’s TV presenters Mwaka ‘Mwaksy’ Mudenda and Richie Driss, alongside Peter Andre, Tyrone Mings, Gareth Southgate, Carrie, David and Talia Grant, Katie Leung, Twist & Pulse, Ade Adepitan, James McVey, Cel Spellman, Will Poulter, Hacker the Dog, as well as the famous voice of The X Factor’s Peter Dickson.
The children enjoyed hearing the personal stories of these celebrities and watching special performances. The assembly offered key information and guidance on how to handle bullying behaviour and the support that is available. The celebrities invited children and teachers alike to ‘put their hands up’ and pledge to put an end to bullying.

The children and teachers join the assembly from their own classrooms and Mrs Stuart, Mrs Giblin, Mrs Brown and Miss Sewell join in from their offices. We are so proud of the children and it is great that the whole school can share and celebrate their accomplishments.

Y1 Sculptures Inspired by Andy Goldsworthy
Fri 25 Sep 2020Year 1 have been looking at the work of Andy Goldsworthy. He is a famous artist who only uses natural materials to make sculptures and we studied some of his sculptures for inspiration for our own works of art.
On a beautiful autumn day, we went on a 'nature hunt' around the school grounds to find natural materials. We then used those materials to work in pairs to make our own sculptures. We had so much fun and really enjoyed taking our learning outdoors. Take a look at some of our amazing creations...."

Great First Week Using Seesaw
Fri 18 Sep 2020It has been wonderful to see so many children sharing their fantastic homework with class teachers through Seesaw this week! Children have also been busy using Seesaw in their lessons to do the following things:
- Capturing photos of the algorithm codes that they have created,
- Videoing new skills in PE,
- Recording themselves reading their own poems.
As children continue to access Seesaw both at home and in school, they will become more confident and proficient at using the system. They will also be learning vital life skills, such as communication. When they are working with Seesaw from home, please make sure that they are using their home account and not their school account.
It is vital that all families are able to access Seesaw; in the event of your child needing to isolate for any reason, Seesaw will be used to set work and offer feedback and support. If you haven’t yet logged in, please see the log in information which was sent home in your child’s book bag last week. All you need to do is download the Seesaw Class app onto a phone or tablet, or access it through the website: https://web.seesaw.me/. If you are having any problems accessing the system, please send an email to Parents@throckleyprim.newcastle.sch.uk and we will work with you to ensure that you can login.

A Mysterious Suitcase in Year 6
Fri 18 Sep 2020In Year 6, during an English lesson, a mysterious suitcase was left by someone. The children looked at the contents to try and learn more about this person. The children then made some incredible predictions about the book using the evidence they found.
