Year 4 at the Hancock Museum
Fri 12 Oct 2018On Tuesday, the whole of Year 4 were thrilled to visit the Great North Museum to extend their study of History and prehistoric life. They couldn’t wait to learn more about the lives of the Ancient Greeks, Romans and Egyptians. There was even time to explore the exhibitions of dinosaurs and the natural world. After a well-earned lunch, they had great fun identifying and sorting Stone, Bronze and Iron Age artefacts. Future archaeologists in the making! -
Y5 & Y6 Duffy League Football Competition
Fri 12 Oct 2018After a very unlucky first two fixtures, our boys showed great resilience and strength of character to draw the next match and convincingly win their last two matches. This puts us in a strong position going into our next round of fixtures. We discussed sticking with our game plan of 'playing football' as it should be played and that this would serve us well. As predicted, it did and we totally outclassed the opposition in our last two fixtures. A very encouraging start to our season. Well done boys! -
Harvest Festival Assembly
Fri 12 Oct 2018As part of our Religious Education (RE) curriculum and PSHE, Rev Allison Harding from St Mary’s Church led an inspiring Harvest Assembly for the children this week. She talked about the importance of the harvest season and the abundance of food in the Autumn. The children were then asked to consider those in their community who don’t have as much food and to think about ways that they would be able to help them. Rev Harding volunteers in a local foodbank and discussed with the children the importance of food donations for these important community charities. To mark the harvest season, we will be collecting food for the Newcastle West End Foodbank. They are in urgent need of items such as tinned fruits & vegetables, cereal, pasta, coffee and tea. We have included a full list suggested donations on a leaflet that we have sent home in your child’s book bag today. Please send all donations to school by Friday, 26th October and we will deliver them to the food bank over half term. Thank you. -
Years 5 & 6 PHSE Assembly on Rumours, Gossip and Kindness
Fri 05 Oct 2018Years 5 & 6 have had a PSHE assembly themed around the subjects of kindness, gossiping and rumours. First, the children closed their eyes and imagined a time in the past when they had heard or spread a rumour or gossip. They then discussed how being unkind or spreading rumors can really upset other people and even make them angry. The children then discussed what to do if someone is unkind and they came up with some lovely ideas, such as walking away or speaking to an adult in school. Finally, the children played a game where they passed a whispered message down a line. This game helped them to understand how quickly and easily rumours can turn into something that isn’t true. Instead of having a black labrador, it turns out Miss Williamson loves leprechauns! Ask your child about the game and maybe even try it at home. It is amazing how much a message can change when it is passed from person to person . -

Year 1 E-Safety
Fri 05 Oct 2018In ICT this week, Year 1 has learned about the importance of asking for help from an adult when using the internet. They listened to the story of Smartie the Penguin and answered questions throughout the story to help Smartie make the decisions about keeping safe whilst online. The children learned a a simple safety song, ‘before you click, click, click, you need to think, think, think and tell someone’ - ask your child to sing it to you! They also designed a poster about how to stay safe online. -
