Y5 Pollination Science Lesson
Fri 09 Oct 2020This week, Year 5 came up with their own investigation to see how wind speed affected the rate of pollination in plants. Using a hair dryer, they explored the way pollen (or cous-cous!) dispersal was increased by a greater wind speed. They recorded their own results and made brilliantly reasoned conclusions to build on this fascinating branch of biology next week.

Snail Week in Nursery
Fri 09 Oct 2020Last Friday we discovered a snail in the Nursery garden! The children were fascinated and watched it moving around and popping in and out of its shell. We decided to change our plans and use the excitement of the snail to drive our learning for the following week. Nursery have been reading the book 'Snail Trail' by Ruth Brown and completing lots of snail themed activities. 'The Snail' by Henri Matisse has also been used to inspire some artwork. We have had a great week!

Head Boy & Girl Elections
Fri 09 Oct 2020On Wednesday, the children at Throckley Primary were able to witness our Head Boy and Girl candidates read their speeches through a virtual assembly. All of the speeches were so inspiring and filled with excellent reasons why they should be elected. The children across school then participated in an election in their classes, giving them a real-life experience of the British Value of Democracy. The results of the election are as follows: Head Girl: Caitlin, Head Boy: Wei-Jai, Deputy Head Girl: Lucy, Deputy Head Boy: Sam, School Council Representatives: Daniel G, Daniel S, Ella and Ebony.

Fri 02 Oct 2020Year 3 have been investigating shadows as part of their topic on light. Using their class text, 'The Explorer', the children made shadow puppets of the main characters and retold the beginning of the story whilst investigating how shadows are formed and how they change when they are moved closer to a light source. National Poetry Day 2020
Fri 02 Oct 2020On Thursday we all celebrated National Poetry Day. The photos above show just some of the poetry activities which were taking place in classrooms throughout the school.
- Year 4 explored their five favourite types of poems and then sorted Stone Age poems into whether they were cinquain, tanka or haiku. The children know the difference between these types of poems by how many lines and syllables they have. They then used their knowledge of Stone Age cave people to create their own kenning riddle poem about them. To finish off their favourite five poems, they worked as a class to create an acrostic poem about the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages.
- Year 2 read and recited a poem about superheroes to link in with their class book, ‘Traction Man’ by Mini Grey.

The Big Anti-Bullying Assembly 2020
Fri 02 Oct 2020Our school took part in a virtual assembly this week which was sponsored by Nationwide Building Society. The event brought together hundreds of thousands of children empowering them to tackle bullying with a host of celebrities including; children’s TV presenters Mwaka ‘Mwaksy’ Mudenda and Richie Driss, alongside Peter Andre, Tyrone Mings, Gareth Southgate, Carrie, David and Talia Grant, Katie Leung, Twist & Pulse, Ade Adepitan, James McVey, Cel Spellman, Will Poulter, Hacker the Dog, as well as the famous voice of The X Factor’s Peter Dickson.
The children enjoyed hearing the personal stories of these celebrities and watching special performances. The assembly offered key information and guidance on how to handle bullying behaviour and the support that is available. The celebrities invited children and teachers alike to ‘put their hands up’ and pledge to put an end to bullying.
