Year 1 Learning about Kandinsky's Circles
Fri 06 Dec 2019Year 1 have been looking at the work of the artist, Kandinsky. They loved the different colours in the artwork and wanted to make their own versions. There was a problem though! They only had red, blue and yellow paint in the classroom so had to work out how to make the other colours. Luckily, they had been learning all about primary and secondary colours and were able to use their knowledge to make green, purple and orange paint.

Spring Term Club Choices
Fri 06 Dec 20196th December 2019
Dear Parents/Carers,
Spring Term 1 Club Choices
Further to my letter of 22nd Nov 2019, attached please find the club choice letter for Spring Term 1.
After School Clubs
During Spring Term, after school clubs will run for five weeks from the week beginning 13th January to the week beginning 10th February. After school clubs will not run after the half term holiday. If your child would like to sign up for one of the after school clubs, please fill out the attached form. There are a limited number of places in these clubs, so please ensure that your child wants to attend/will be able to attend all sessions before signing them up. It is our aim that every child has the opportunity to take part in at least one after school club of their choice each academic year. If your child attended an after school club in Autumn Term, this counts as one club for the academic year.

Whole School Christmas Book Focus
Fri 29 Nov 2019As a special treat in the run up to Christmas, we are going to have a whole school focus on this lovely picture bookabout a girl called Mia and her family. Every Christmas, they read a letter from her Grandpa that fondly recalls his favourite memories and asks her (and everyone else!) to continue to care for and protect our precious world. It is a short text and has lovely cross-curricular links to the environment, our planet and sustainability. We think that the children will love this book and it will add some Christmas magic to our English lessons in December! -
Science Challenge Homework
Fri 29 Nov 2019Before half term, the pupils at Throckley were challenged to explore the impact of air pressure on the world around us with only a few straws and a glass of water. The response was tremendous! Children used multiple straws in and out of the water, while others put holes in straws; some even held glasses of water upside down with only a paper base, discovering that we have atmospheric pressure to thank for a drink of water! -
Consultation for Parents/Carers about new Sex & Relationships (SRE) Curriculum
Fri 29 Nov 2019Mrs Brown and Miss Liddle enjoyed having the opportunity to share the building blocks of our new Relationships Curriculum with our parents/carers and to discuss how the primary curriculum will lead into the future learning of the children when they reach secondary school. Parents at the meeting were able to see the age appropriate topics of our curriculum and ask questions about the learning that will be taking place in PSHE lessons. The input from our parents and carers was extremely valuable and we will be using it to tailor the curriculum to suit the needs of our children and families. -

Autumn Term Coffee Morning
Fri 22 Nov 2019Miss Sewell, Mrs Brown and Lynne Cunningham were pleased to welcome so many of our parents/carers to their first coffee morning. It was so nice to have time for a relaxed chat away from the busy start and end to the day. A special thank you to our school chef, June, who baked some amazing treats and to Chartwells who provided all of those treats for free. We hope that you enjoyed trying some of the puddings that your children eat with their school dinners. We will hold a coffee morning each term, so please look out for the next invitation. We look forward to seeing you there!
