We love reading at Throckley Primary School!
Reading is such an important skill; its value can never be underestimated – a gateway to so many opportunities. Reading and books have such high profile in our school. We love to talk about books and authors and to share our love of reading! We have some exciting reading incentives and opportunities in school this year; you will notice a real focus in school on reading for pleasure and enjoyment. Please see below for the latest reading news:
Mrs Giblin’s cosy lunchtime book club! Every Tuesday lunchtime, Mrs Giblin will be in our wonderful school library doing what she enjoys most - reading! All children are invited to join her and to choose a story of their own or to join in with a shared story time. Lexia will also be available for children who would like to spend more time trying to reach the next level.
Lexia - are you up for the challenge? With four weeks left of this half term, we are challenging all children from Y1 to Y6 to accrue four hours of Lexia time before 25th October. All children have at least 30 minutes of Lexia in school each week, so another 30 minutes at home will mean that they will smash their target. There's a prize for everyone who makes it! Remember, children can access Lexia on Tuesday lunchtimes in the library, if they wish.
The Hall of Fame! Each week, we will be choosing a reading, writing and maths hero from the Lower School and Upper School to join the Hall of Fame. Their photo will be displayed for all to see; a great way to celebrate achievement! Reading heroes could be selected for any reading effort or success: super home reading; wonderful work in class; sharing a story with friends; trying a new author - you name it!
Share your favourite book! Finally, we are going to be revamping some of our displays in the library in order to celebrate the favourite stories and authors loved by children and staff in school. If your child has a favourite book they'd like to share, we'd love to see pictures of them reading it! If you would like to send in a photo, please either send a hard copy in their bookbag (don't forget to add your child's name on the back!) or email a photo to admin@throckleyprim.newcastle.sch.uk. Staff will be joining in too so we will all be able to look at the display and get ideas for our next read!
