Our allotment club has been taking part in an exciting leek growing project with The Grange Day Centre in Throckley. Mr Blackburn donated some tiny leek plants to us back in the spring and the allotment club has nurtured them until they have grown into huge leeks which were then entered into The Grange’s annual leek show. Our leeks weren’t quite as big as the ones in these photographs, but they did win a special prize of £50 which will be used to further develop our allotment club. Following the show, Mr Elliott and the allotment club children cooked some delicious leek and potato soup and shared it with their parents/carers at lunchtime today. They also put together a display with some of the other produce that they have grown. Mr Elliott is continuing with the allotment club this year, so lots of our children will have the opportunity to work in the outdoors, grow and then taste their own food. Thank you to The Grange and to Mr Blackburn for inviting the school to be part of this community project.
