Black History Month at Throckley Primary
Children across the school completed age appropriate work to celebrate Black History Month during October. Below are some examples of the exciting learning which took place in the classes:
· Year 1 celebrated Black History Month by learning about the life of Bessie Coleman, the first African-American woman to hold a pilot licence. On paper they wrote down their dreams and what they had learned. They then transformed these into paper aeroplanes!
· Year 4 learned about Diane Abbott for Black History Month. She was the first black female British politician, and is an inspiration to all of us.
· Year 6 looked at the influence of Nelson Mandela. Through learning about Nelson Mandela’s life and some of his most famous quotes, the children wrote an acrostic poem focussing on the great things he achieved.
