Working As A Scientist
From Year 1, children are introduced to the six headings of “Working as a Scientist” in language appropriate to their age. This procedural scientific knowledge (‘Working scientifically’ in the National Curriculum) is not taught separately, but rather is the means by which children retrieve, explore, measure, analyse, practise and test new (conceptual) scientific knowledge. Children are familiarised explicitly with these in each lesson, working as (and not merely mimicking the work of a scientist) with ever more sophistication.
