Our World
We care about our planet. We want to protect our natural resources and reduce waste. We appreciate the natural beauty of our school grounds, our community and the wider world - we want to protect this.
Reception
As part of ‘Our World,’ the children in Reception enjoyed looking after chicks. The children helped change the food and water and made sure they were very careful when holding the baby chicks. The chicks have now gone to live with Miss Liddle’s Mum and the children enjoy receiving updates about them.

Year 1
Year 1 linked their Thrive task to their science topics of ‘animals’. They thought about the animals they see on a daily basis and what they need to thrive. They decided that the best way to help them is to provide them with nutritious food. The children used whole-wheat hoops to make bird feeders. They then thought about the best place to hang them in their yards and gardens to avoid predators.

Year 2
Year 2 spent some time outdoors as part of the 'Our World' topic. The children enjoyed finding natural resources to make bug hotels to help the minibeasts that live on our school grounds. They are really excited to make these bug hotels come to life, using a range of resources they found right here at Throckley Primary School.

Year 3
Year 3 went back to nature by planting seeds and saplings to contribute to the natural regeneration of our world. They are now experts in all the things that plants need not only to survive but also to THRIVE!

Year 4
For Thrive this half term, Year 4 have been learning about ways to protect the planet. They have looked at water waste and the impact this has on the environment. The children created posters to explain how important it is to not waste water. The children included tips on how to reduce water waste and they explained the positive effect this would have on planet Earth. Year 4 displayed these around school to spread the world!

Year 5
Year 5 explored why water is so essential to our lives. They investigated the risks of using too much water and completed a challenge to save as much water as they could. The children followed a set of tasks called, The Ripple Effect, which was set up by Northumbrian Water. They learned about the water cycle and completed a range of different tasks to save the world.

Year 6
Year 6 were climate activists during their Thrive work on ‘Our World’. The children explored the book ‘Greta and the Giants’ and found out all about the amazing work that Greta Thunberg has completed to help tackle climate change. The children watched Greta’s inspiring speech at the U.N. Climate Action Summit and then created their own protest-style signs which outlined key messages about fighting against climate change.
