Our Community
We are proud of our increasingly diverse local community. We are proud of our heritage. We are proud of our school and the contribution it makes to the area in which we live.
Reception
As part of ‘Our Community,’ the children in Reception made their own beanstalks. These were inspired by their class book, Jack and the Beanstalk. The children used their fine motor skills to thread the cereal and paper. Once we had finished them, we decided the animals in our area would appreciate a tasty snack so we decided to take our beanstalks to forest school. We planted our beanstalks in the ground and when we returned the next day, the cereal was gone. The animals in our community had enjoyed a lovely snack made by Reception.

Year 1
In Year 1's Thrive lesson, children embarked on an exciting community adventure! Their focus was on showing pride in our local area, so the children kicked things off with a litter pick around the school grounds. Armed with their gloves and bags, they worked together to tidy up, learning the importance of keeping our environment clean and pleasant for everyone.
After their tidy-up session, the children turned their attention to the school garden. The children were bubbling with enthusiasm as they discussed how vital it is to look after our green spaces. They planted some lovely flowers, highlighting how a touch of colour can brighten our surroundings.

Year 2
As part of their Thrive work on ‘Our Community’, children in Year 2 took litter pickers around the school grounds to tidy up the area and keep our community safe place to live and play. They were very careful when collecting rubbish and made sure to dispose of this correctly too!

Year 4
Year 4 have been learning about the importance of community. They discussed the meaning of community and how important it is for people to look after and care for each other in order to achieve a common goal. In order to fully understand this, the children took part in activities which required teamwork and communication. The children had to order themselves in height order using their verbal communication skills but were given the obstacle of standing on a bench without touching the floor. After this, we asked the children to order themselves in age order by using hand signals only.

Year 5
Year 5 enjoyed this half terms thrive text ‘Thank you Omu’. They discussed the theme of providing for our community but also for showing gratitude when people provide for us. The children generated many characteristics that together create a community we would all be happy to live in. They decided to choose one person that we wanted to show love, appreciation and gratitude for. Year 5 created a gift that explained why we were thankful, why we were grateful and what makes that person special. It was lovely to see everyone swapping crafts.

Year 6
Year 6 children visited a local care home as part of their Thrive focus of “Our Community". During the visit, the children sang songs, shared stories, and engaged in mindful colouring activities with the residents. It was a lovely experience and the children showed excellent manners, behaviour and respect whilst on the visit. In addition, some of the children took handmade kindness notes, which they personally gave to the residents, brightening their day with thoughtful messages. What lovely work, Year 6!
