Visit to Seahouses

3rd July 2015

As part of their topic on ‘Local Heroes’, two of our KS1 classes visited Seahouses this week.  They     followed in the footsteps of Grace Darling who was famous for rescuing people from a shipwreck during a terrible storm.  Grace lived in a lighthouse and was the first to spot the ship and raise the alarm.  She then went in the boat to help to bring the survivors back to safety.

The children sailed on a boat with George and Ailsa Shiel of Golden Gate Farne Islands Boat Trips to see the island and its lighthouse.  It was a beautiful day but there were still big waves and lots of  splashes so it was easy to imagine what it would have been like for Grace Darling back in 1838.  The children were brilliant all day and Ailsa emailed Mrs Stuart to say, ‘They were an absolute pleasure to meet and the skipper has praised them all day’.  What an amazing trip - thank you to all of our helpers and especially to George and Ailsa.
