Science - Classifications.

6B kicked off their science work this term by discussing the new vocabulary they would encounter when classifying living things. As a class, they sorted themselves into different groups -boys/girls, shirts/jumpers, etc. - noting the way they used ‘yes or no’ questions based on overt characteristics.

In their groups, they were given a selection of snack foods and were asked to sort them firstly into two groups. One group chose packaged/ non-packaged while others chose healthy/ non-healthy. They justified their choices and then imagined further questions to subdivide yet again, e.g. fruit/ not-fruit. A perfect start!
