Maths - Common multiples.

It is well known that elves’ step size depends upon the size of their shoe. If they have size 3 feet, they take 3cm steps and if they have size 4 feet, their steps are 4cm long. This causes obvious problems when elves are walking together as they struggle to stay in line with each other if they have different sized feet. Sometimes one will overtake and sometimes the other will. During our Christmas themed maths investigation, children used cuisenair rods to investigate common multiples and find out when elves with different sized feet would next be walking along side each other.
