We would like to draw your attention to the following attendance initiatives we have taking place this year. Most of these initiatives are a continuation from last year, however, we work with our School Council to discuss new, exciting ways that we can incentivise good and improved attendance.
Schools are required to promote good attendance as research shows a direct link between attendance and academic success. It is important to note, however, that good attendance is only one of the many celebrated achievements that we have in school which are all based around our six core values: Respect, Teamwork, Learning, Caring, Success and Pride.
97% + Attendance (Green Zone)
Newcastle Local Authority and our own school target for attendance is 97% or above. Classes with 97% attendance have their attendance celebrated each week in our Achievement Assembly and with a star on their class chart. The class with the highest weekly attendance receives a special certificate. On the last Friday of each half term, the class with the highest overall attendance is awarded with a non-uniform day.
Excellent Attendance Awards
The school recognises that some pupils will have only missed a few school sessions for a variety of authorised reasons and, new to this year, these pupils will receive an ‘Excellent Attendance’ certificate half termly. There will also be a termly parent hamper prize draw for families with excellent attendance. The first one will have a Christmas theme and will be on display in the school foyer.
The school and governors wish to recognise and celebrate those pupils who continually come to school every day and on time with no early collections. These pupils will continue to receive their half termly attendance certificate, which will be awarded as part of a special assembly or themed activity with the Head Teacher on the final Friday of each half term. Those pupils with 100% attendance for the entire academic year will receive a special prize.
As part of an Outer West Learning Trust of nine schools in the local area, we have been selected by Vision supply agency to partake in their ‘Attendance Hero’ scheme this year. Each half term, children from Early Years and Key Stage One will be chosen for a certificate or a special prize in recognition of excellent or improved attendance. In Key Stage Two, Attendance Heroes will be given family tickets to a Newcastle Eagles home game.
Just remember-you’ve got to be in to win!
