Preschool - Rising 3s and Nursery
At Throckley Primary we provide a flexible offer for children from two-years-old. Our Throckley Acorns playgroup for twos begins the journey through our school and children progress into our Rising 3's playgroup and then into our Preschool Nursery. Our Playgroups and Nursery are fully integrated into our outstanding school and all children in these groups access our purposeful and empowering Early Years Curriculum which fully prepares them for the next steps in their school career and opens the doors to the wider world.
We welcome enquiries at any time. We believe that it is important for you to be able to visit our school and to gain an insight into school life. We proudly invite you to meet our dedicated team, to visit our excellent facilities, to experience our high-quality learning environment and to see how our school operates beyond Early Years. Please contact the school for further information or to arrange a visit by ringing 0191 267 5311.
Key Information
Key Information for Rising 3s
The Rising 3 provision is for children who turn 3 between 1st September 2024 and 31st August 2025. Children move into Rising 3s at two different points:
The term your child turns 3
- If your child has a funded place in Acorns, they will transfer to Rising 3 in the term after they turn 3.
- If your child has a paid place in Acorns, they will be able to transfer to a Rising 3 paid place from the day after they turn 3. There will be an opportunity to pay for additional sessions should you wish (prices and patterns are in the further information section below).
- If your child is new to the school, you can pay to admit them into Rising 3 from the day after they turn 3 (prices and patterns are in the further information section below).
- Your child is eligible to access out-of-school childcare from Cuba from the day after they turn 3. Please note, there are limited places in Cuba and there are fees to pay to attend.
The term after your child turns 3 (January 2025 intake or April 2025 intake)
- All children are entitled to 15 hours of free childcare from the term after they turn 3. This 15 hours can be claimed in different session patterns (please see further information section below). If you admitted your child early (the term that they turned 3) and have been paying for sessions, this means that your payments for 15 hours will stop.
- If you need additional hours, you can pay to 'top-up' your hours for £18 per session.
- If you qualify for a 30-hours funded place for working parents, you can claim a full time place in Rising 3s (term time only).
- Your child is eligible to access out-of-school childcare from Cuba from the day after they turn 3. Please note, there are limited places in Cuba and there are fees to pay to attend.
Please contact school to discuss your session needs in Rising 3s.
