Year 5 Win the Newcastle Building Society Boardroom Challenge!
Throughout the Summer Term, our Y5 class has participated in a charity fundraising enterprise project with Newcastle Building Society. The children had a lesson about what profit is and how to make profit when fundraising for a charity. They also had a visit from a Newcastle University lecturer who taught them about public relations and how to use publicity to make an event more profitable. The class worked on projects in 3 different groups and then presented to a panel of branch managers who chose the project that would go through to the final. On the day of the competition, the children went to the NBS offices to present to a panel which included the Lord Mayor and Mr Andrew Haigh, the CEO of Newcastle Building Society. They competed against 6 other primary schools and their presentation about their plan for a carnival to raise money for the Batten Disease Family Association was the winner! They have won £500 for the BDFA and another £500 so that they can put on a fundraising carnival during the next school year. Lynn Richardson from Newcastle Building Society rang Mrs Stuart to say that the children were a credit to the school and that the panel was so impressed with how they worked together and supported each other. We are all so proud of them and their beautiful trophy will take pride of place in the trophy cabinet at the front of the school. We also look forward to a really fun carnival when we return to school next year. Thank you to Newcastle Building Society for this wonderful opportunity!
