Throckley Choir at The Sage

11th November 2016

On Friday, 4th November, a group of Key Stage Two singers had a once-in-a –lifetime opportunity: to sing on the Hall One stage at The Sage in Gateshead. As part of a festival of music, drama and dance led by internationally acclaimed Northumbrian piper, Kathryn Tickell, our very own choir were asked to perform the world premiere of a brand new folk song. Not only that, the song was written by non-other than David Almond; author of the internationally bestselling book, Skellig. Throckley Primary School joined five other schools from the region on stage and our ten singers sang a whole verse and chorus of the emotive and rousing song, Song of the Tyne. Kathryn was looking for singers who were talented, enthusiastic and passionate about our region and heritage and our Throckley singers did not disappoint. Comprising of Ellisia and Amelia from Year 4; Antonia, Lucy, Zoe, Nicole, Phoebe, Katie and Grace from Year 5 and Year 6’s Chloe, our choir members gave their all to the many rehearsals running up to the main event and sang their hearts out on stage. They were a credit to our school during Friday’s performance.  Mrs Stuart and Mrs Giblin were incredibly proud of them all.  Please visit this link to find out more about the project  http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/whats-on/music-nightlife-news/youngsters-north-east-preparing-premiere-12117769 and visit the Gallery section of the website to see a film of the performance and to hear the song.
