Science Experiments with Snow in Reception

19th January 2018
  • Experiment 1. As part of their Gingerbread Man topic, our Reception classes have used the snow on the yard to conduct an experiment.  They asked the question, ‘Which is safer for the Gingerbread Man to cross, a frozen river or a river of running water?’  A Gingerbread Man was left in a tray of water and another one was left in a tray of snow.  The children tried to pick him up out of the trays at time intervals of 2 minutes, 5 minutes and 10 minutes.
  • Experiment 2.  Miss Liddle told the children that she wanted to build a snowman and that she didn’t want it to melt.  The children came up with their own ideas about the best place to build the snowman.  They then used cups full of snow to test their hypothesis.

If you have a child in Reception, please ask them to tell you the results of these experiments!
